Mar Vista Community Council
Mar Vista Community Council's Aging In Place Committee has helped set the standard for best practices for Neighborhood Council Purposeful Aging Liaisons citywide.
Citywide Neighborhood Councils with LADWP
Neighborhood Councils citywide participate in two different committees, both of which partner with LADWP. The Advocacy Committee takes positions on water and power issues, while the DWP MOU Oversight Committee ensures the effectiveness of the Neighborhood Councils / LADWP MOU (Memorandum of Understanding agreement.) United Neighborhoods Neighborhood Council
United Neighborhoods Neighborhood Council won an EmpowerLA Award in 2016 for partnering with City Council District 10 to hold major oil companies accountable. Their efforts led to the city hiring the first Petroleum Administrator in over 60 years. (Photo by Sergey Novikov.)
Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council

Northridge West Neighborhood Council
Northridge West Neighborhood Council (2016 EmpowerLA Award winner) partnered with Division of Urban Forestry to remove dead trees and save dying ones with installation of drip irrigation system
FilmLA and Film Liaisons from Neighborhood Councils Citywide

Sun Valley Area Neighborhood Council
Sun Valley Area Neighborhood Council (2014 EmpowerLA Award) created a Neighborhood Pride Day to rehabilitate local homes belonging to veterans and others in need. Three homes were assisted with the help of LA County Neighborhood Housing Services; the board then assembled their own volunteer teams to improve 11 more homes in the area. Local businesses provided building supplies and food for volunteers.
Mid City West Neighborhood Council
Mid City West Community Council's Bike Friendly Streets Plan was awarded $2.1 million in Metro funding, plus an additional $400,000 from LA City. They were nominated for funding consideration by City Council District 5, and received a 2015 EmpowerLA Award for their program.
Harbor City Neighborhood Council
Harbor City Neighborhood Council (2014 EmpowerLA Award winner) partnered with Caltrans (State Dept of Transportation) and Narbonne High School to build a safety fence along Western Avenue to protect students in this heavy traffic area
Partners from the city, the county, and the state work with Neighborhood Councils to engage the community, to prioritize local issues, and to create solutions to problems such as homelessness, public safety, land-use, employment, environmental issues.
Since its establishment in 1999, the Los Angeles Department of Neighborhood Empowerment has grown into the nation’s largest and most innovative initiative in civic engagement and citizen-based government through the “EmpowerLA” movement. With a network of 99 Neighborhood Councils, Los Angeles promotes public participation in government and works to improve government responsiveness to local concerns.
